Musée du Louvre

The Louvre is one of the world's greatest museums. It is also the largest museum in Paris. Located in the heart of Paris, on the right bank of the Seine. The building is a former royal palace. Its glass pyramid makes it one of the most distinctive symbols of Paris. It is also the world's largest museum, with 210,000 m2 of floor space, including 60,600 m2 of galleries.

Inaugurated at the end of the 18th century, the Musée du Louvre is the most important museum in France and the most visited in the world. Every year, more than 8 million people contemplate its works.
The Louvre's collection comprises almost 300,000 works created before 1948, but only some 35,000 pieces are on display.
The vast collection is organized thematically and divided into different departments: Oriental antiquities, Egyptian antiquities, Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities, history of the Louvre and the medieval Louvre, painting, sculpture, objets d'art, graphic arts and Islamic arts.
